Hadith Explanation
Identification of Muslims by Wudhu
Abu Hurairah (radi Allahu anhu) reported that the Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) came to the graveyard and said: “Peace be upon you, dwelling of believing people, and we will (all) if Allah wills join you soon. I would have liked to have seen our brothers!” His Companions asked: “Are we not your brothers, O Messenger of Allah?” He said: “You are my Companions and our brothers are those who have not yet come.” They said: “How will you recognize those people of your Ummah who have not come as yet, O Messenger of Allah?” He (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “If a man has horses with white marks on their foreheads and legs and they get mixed with jet-black horses, then what do you think, would he not be able to recognize his horses?” They said: “Why not, O Messenger of Allah. He will certainly recognize them.” He said: “So these people will also (be easily recognized, since they will) be made to rise on the Day of Judgement with all parts of their bodies shining from Wudhu.” [Muslim]
Every Muslim believes in the Day of Judgement. On the Day of Judgement, the shining of our body parts that have been washed with Wudhu, will allow Prophet Muhammad (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) to identify us as one of the believers and as a part of his prestigious Community.
