Hadith Explanation

Al-Khaaliq – The Inventor and Creator

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Allah has ninety-nine names (each describing an attribute), one hundred less one. Whoever ‘ahsaaha’ (enumerates them, believes in them, ponders their meanings, supplicates with them, and acts according to belief in them) will enter Paradise.” [Saheeh Muslim]

One of Allah’s names is Al-Khaliq, which means “the Creator.” Al-Khaliq is that entity Who creates things from nothing, Who invents with no example or model before Him. What He creates has never been created before. Everything was made for the first time by Him, from scratch. There is no Creator besides Allah. He is the Original and Only Designer Who needs no time to bring into existence His plans. He says to it “Be,” and it comes into being.

Allah Al-Khaliq created the material and time present in the universe, gave matter its properties, and set in motion its laws. He has total control over everything, manages all its affairs, but is independent of all that He created.

Once, Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal was asked why he believed in Allah. He replied, “There is an incredibly strong fort, it has no doors, there is no way to get in. In fact, there is not even a hole in it. From outside it glows like the moon and from inside it shimmers like gold. It is sealed from all sides, as a matter of fact, it is air tight. Suddenly one of its doors breaks down, a living thing with eyes and ears, a beautiful looking animal appears yelling and wandering all over. So is not there a Creator who made it possible for life to take place in this secured and closed fort? And is not this Creator better than humans? This Creator has no limit.” Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal was referring to an egg which is closed from all sides that Allah Al-Khaliq creates, puts life in, and then a living chick comes out. [Tafseer Ibn Katheer]

If there is anything we desire, we should ask Him who creates everything. If you desire children ask only and only from Al-Khaliq. There is no magic, evil eye, body chemistry, or any force on earth that can prevent what Allah Al-Khaliq has destined to bring into existence.

Firawn tried his best to prevent Musa (alaihis salam) from coming into being and growing up to destroy his kingdom, but when Allah Al-Khaliq decides to create something, none can thwart Him.

When you take the fear of created things out of your heart, they will cease to have any influence over you. If you strengthen your relationship with Al-Khaliq, He will suffice for your needs.

This name of Allah’s (Al-Khaliq) comes in the Quran eleven times and the verb (khalaqa) appears many more times.
