Blessing in Sahur

Narrated Anas bin Malik (radi Allahu anhu): “The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, ‘Take Sahur as there is a blessing in it.’” [The Book of As-Saum: Sahih Bukhari]

Sahur is the meal that we eat before the Fajr adhan the day that we intend to fast. While it is cumbersome to have to wake up before Fajr to eat and drink, this meal is part of the Sunnah. The fact that it is beneficial for us, is proved by the fact that we were told by Prophet Muhammad (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) to partake of it. To eat anything or even drink water, is a way to fulfill this Sunnah, and thereby show our love for and devotion to following Allah’s chosen Messenger.
