Hadith Explanation

Bound to be Beheaded but Freed

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “I command you to give charity. Its example is like that of a man who has been held by his enemies, his hands have been tied to his neck, and he has been drawn near with the intention of being beheaded; suddenly he enquires of the possibility of saving his life by giving money. Then he began giving whatever valuable things – of little or more value – that he had, till he was able to get himself freed.” [Haakim]

Sadaqah and generosity play a big role in delivering us from the calamity of the Hereafter. We should remember the enormity and multitude of our sins and give in Sadaqah to buy our freedom from Jahannum.

Give in Sadaqah the same way that a man about to be beheaded throws his money at his captors to get himself freed.
