Hadith Explanation
Cross Dressing
The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) cursed men who wear women’s clothing and women who wear men’s.” [Abu Dawud]
There is division of labour within a cell, within an organ, within an organism, within society (in professions), and there is meant to be division of labour in a family too.
Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) has specified roles and responsibilities for husbands and wives, fathers and mothers, men and women, etc. Each will be rewarded equally by Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) for fulfilling their roles. “And whoever does righteous good deeds, male or female, and is a true believer in the Oneness of Allah (Muslim), such will enter Paradise and not the least injustice, even to the size of a Naqira (speck on the back of a datestone), will be done to them.” [Quran 4:194]
Each will perform their role best when they are aware of it. Dressing appropriate to a role indicates recognition of it and willingness to fulfill its obligations. Would you like to be operated on by a surgeon dressed as a clown?
