Hadith Explanation
Eclipse Prayer
The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “The sun and the moon are two signs of Allah. They do not undergo eclipse on the birth or death of anyone. Call for the grace of Allah, offer prayers to Him, and worship Him when you see the sun or moon in eclipse and continue to offer devotions to the Almighty until the eclipse is over.” [Bukhari]
When the sun or moon is eclipsed, do engage yourself in the remembrance of Allah: Offer prayers to Him, glorify Him and give charity. As a blessing for these pious deeds, Allah puts off trials and calamities.
The prayer for solar eclipses is prayed in congregation (Jamaat) in the Masjid, without making the Adhan for it or pronouncing the Iqamah. In case of a lunar eclipse, Nawafil are prayed at home and not in congregation.
