Eeman is Sincerity

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Eeman is sincerity.” The Sahabah (radi Allahu anhum) asked: “Towards whom?” He (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) replied: “Towards Allah, His Books, His Messengers, the [Muslim] leaders and all ordinary Muslims.” [Muslim]

It is evident from this Hadith that Eeman is not just an abstract feeling or a personal belief, but rather, it calls for a believer to be honest and sincere in meeting his obligations towards Allah, His divine guidance, His Messenger and the Muslim Ummah at large.

A mother has three daughters who all profess to love her. She asks them for a glass of water. One outright refuses to get it for her. Another keeps smiling at the mother but doesn’t budge. The third jumps up and quickly returns with the water. Which one of the three daughters is sincere in her declaration of love?

Sincerity means to put your money where your mouth is and act according to your declarations.
