Emerge in Necessity

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “It is not permissible for women to emerge from their homes except in dire necessity; and they should not walk on the street except on the sides.” [Tabrani]

Anas bin Maalik (radi Allahu anhu) narrated that the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) was once going somewhere. In the street there was a woman walking in front of him. He asked her to walk on a side. She replied, “The road is quite wide.” The Companions of the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) became annoyed. He (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said to them, “Leave her alone; she is a rebel.” [Jami ul Usool, vol. 6, p.660]
