Extinguish Your Lamps

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “When you go to sleep, extinguish your lamps, for the Shaytaan shows creatures such as this (the mouse) these things (lamps) in order to burn you.” [Sunan Abi Dawood]

Just as the Shaytaan seeks to misguide man with kufr and sins, so he also aims to harm them physically and mentally. He attempts to burn down houses with fire by means of animals that he motivates. Thus, for our own protection, the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) told us to put fires and lamps out before going to bed.
