Hadith Explanation

Family of Mujahid

Sulaimin bin Buraida narrated from his father that the Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “The sanctity of the wives of Mujahids is like the sanctity of their mothers for those who sit at home (i.e., do not go out for Jihad). Anyone who stays behind looking after the family of a Mujahid and betrays his trust will be made to stand on the Day of Judgement before the Mujahid, who will take away from his meritorious deeds whatever he likes. So what do you think (will he leave anything)?” [Book on Government: Sahih Muslim]

When the head of the household is away, a family becomes very vulnerable. Thus, the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) stressed on us to be very mindful regarding his family. Muslims are supposed to take care of one another. Should anyone betray his trust in this regard they should know that they will never get away with it. On the Day of Judgement when people are desperate to get any good deed from anywhere the Mujahid will be free to take all of this person’s good deeds. Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) does not overlook the slightest injustice as He is the Most Just. The Ultimate Recompense is either Jannah or the Fire. Full recompense, reward or punishment, is reserved for the Day of Judgement.
