Hadith Explanation

Fever From Fire Of Hell

The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: "Fever is from the heat of Hell, so abate fever with water." [Sahih Bukhari]

Islam gives its followers a headstart. We were told by Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) through our Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) to treat fever with water. Ibn Sina was the first physician/scientist who recommended the use of water beds and Al-Razi was the first to recommend the use of cold water for patients with typhoid. The same theory was later developed as Little's tubes, ice bags and cold sponging, now in use.

Even the few people who study history often ignore the history of the civilized world, i.e., the land under the Islamic caliphate. Europe is studied as though Asia, Africa and Islamic Spain did not exist on earth during the same period. The Dark Ages existed in Europe, while alongside it, from the 8th to the 12th century, Muslims flourished in a period of incredible enlightenment and accomplishment. Cordoba's Great Library alone housed 400,000 books while the largest libraries of Christendom (at Avignon and Sorbonne) contained at most 2,000 volumes as late as 1150 C.E. Ibn Sina's medical work Al-Qanun (The Canon) is unique in the history of medicine as a textbook that formed half the medical curriculum of European universities up until the latter part of the fifteenth century -- five hundred years after it was written, so vast was the gap between the enlightened Muslim Caliphate and the European Kingdoms of the Dark Ages!
