Hadith Explanation
Give an Encouraging Report
Ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhu) reported: “When Ali (radi Allahu anhu) came out after visiting the Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) during his last illness, the people asked: ‘How is the Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam), O Abul-Hasan?’ He replied: ‘Praise be to Allah, he (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) is feeling better.’” [Sahih Bukhari]
This hadith shows that if a patient is in critical condition and people are advised not to visit him, it would be appropriate to enquire of his blood relatives about his health. The family members are supposed to give an encouraging report of the patient's condition to enquirers.
