Hadith Explanation

Going to Bed

“Whenever the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) intended to go to bed, he would recite: ‘Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya (With Your name, O Allah, I die and I live).’” [Sahih Bukhari]

Sleep is a type of death. Nobody can guarantee that they will wake up from their sleep. Nor can they tell, without external cues, how long they’ve been asleep for. That is why the last thing we should do before we fall asleep is remember Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) and ask Him for His Mercy and Forgiveness.
