Hadith Explanation

Haste is from Shaitaan

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Deliberateness is from Allah, and haste is from the Shaitaan.” [Tirmidhi]

Doing one’s tasks with serenity, composure and dignity is a commendable trait. On the other hand, haste and hurry is an evil trait provoked by Shaitaan.

Serenity, composure and dignity should not be confused with slowness and tardiness. Nor should haste and hurry be confused with efficiency and speed.

When you plan your time wisely and live in a disciplined manner you can do your work efficiently yet calmly. On the other hand, if you live in an indisciplined way, without prioritizing your time, or working by any schedules, then you jump from one thing to the next and are constantly in a fire-fighting mode.

Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) has already set a framework for your day with the Salah. Decide how best to use your time in between. Use the Sunnah as your guide and you will be blessed in your time inshaAllah.
