Hadith Explanation

Iblees Doesn't Tire

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “The Shaytaan said, ‘By Your Glory and Majesty, I will never cease to misguide Your slaves so long as their souls remain in their bodies.’ The Lord said, ‘By My Glory and Majesty, I will continue to forgive them so long as they seek My forgiveness.’” [Ahmad]

Iblees is persistent in doing the evil that he has vowed to do; he never gives up or gets tired. In addition, he has extensive experience in the field of misguidance – millennia of experience. He always uses the same tricks, yet we continue to fall for them generation after generation.

The stories in the Quran and hadith are there for us to wizen up and avoid his traps. We should learn from the experiences of those who came before us.

It is most heartening though to know that despite our falls, Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) is there to forgive us and help us up again. The way that we behave if someone falls is that instead of helping them up we start throwing stones at them. But Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) is pure of defects and not vengeful. He helps us up again. We just need to recognize that we fell and that we need a hand to get up. Once we realize this and seek Allah’s help and forgiveness, He forgives us and puts us on track again. Alhamdulillah!
