Imitating Allah in Creation

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “The people who will be most severely punished on the Day of Resurrection are those who make images.” [Bukhari]

The people who will be most severely punished on the Day of Judgement are those who make images - drawings, paintings or sculptures of animate beings. This is because they seek to imitate the creation of Allah (subhana wa ta’ala).

Suppose you made something really special. Then somebody stole your idea and made a cheap copy of it. They passed it off as the original, took the proceeds from its sale, and no credit came to you for your original masterpiece. Would you like that?

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Allah said: ‘Who is a greater wrongdoer than the one who tries to create something like My creation? Let them create a grain or let them create a seed or a grain of barley.’” [Bukhari]
